Significant research effort in Norway

TOTAL’s research centre in Norway is one of the Group’s six research centres worldwide. The centre is devoted to topics related to the Norwegian continental shelf, and the annual research budget in Norway is approximately NOK 200 million.
Focus areas are flow performance, subsea technology, gas dispersion and marine environmental issues. We work closely with Norwegian institutes and companies that are worldwide leaders in these topics. One example is the LedaFlow project, an improved method to simulate multiphase transport which was recently commercialised.

Sharing technology
As part of TOTAL’s R&D network, encompassing 850 dedicated personnel, we have access to substantial research expertise and resources. It is our policy to share new technology with our licence partners and scientific communities.

The R&D team in Stavanger consists of 12 professional full-time staff members, and about three internships each year. Their aim is to solve E&P challenges and to contribute to TOTAL E&P NORGE’s development by applying results from research activities to operational issues.
