The Atla field development

Atla is a fast-track project and the start-up is scheduled for October 2012, just two years after the discovery was made. The plan for development and operation for the Atla subsea development was approved in November 2011.

Atla is located in production licence 102C in the North Sea, 24 km northeast of Heimdal and approximately 7 km from the Byggve subsea installation. Atla was discovered by well 25/5-7 in October 2010. The well proved hydrocarbons in the Brent Formation.​ The discovery well has been temporarily abandoned and will be completed to a production well in the first half of 2012.

The reserves are estimated at 12 million barrels of oil equivalents and the investments are estimated to NOK 1.4 billion.

The field name Atla is from Norse mythology. Atla was a giantess (jotun), one of nine mothers of the god Heimdall.

TOTAL E&P NORGE (40%) is the operator, and the partners are Petoro AS (30%), Centrica Resources (Norge) AS (20%) and Det norske oljeselskap ASA (10%).
