Exciting future in the north

The Barents Sea is an area undergoing expansion, and is an important focus area for TOTAL E&P NORGE. We drilled an exploration well at Norvarg in 2011, and we are a significant player on Snøhvit.

As a licence partner with an ownership interest of 18.40% in Snøhvit, we have good insight into the challanges posed by the areas in the north, and we have learned a lot. In 2011, we drilled an exploration well at Norvarg in the Barents Sea, which proved gas. This is one of the northern-most wells ever drilled.

The challenges in the Barents Sea are plentiful, both as regards temperature and ice, a much less developed infrastructure and greater distances than on other parts of the continental shelf. However, these factors contribute to making the area exciting, and push us and the rest of the energy industry to develop new solutions.

About Norvarg
Norvarg is located northeast of Snøhvit. TOTAL E&P NORGE has an ownership interest of 40% in the licence and is the operator. The other licensees are Det norske oljeselskap ASA, North Energy and Rocksource, with 20% each.
