North Norwegian Festival of Culture The North Norwegian Festival of Culture has been held in Harstad since 1965 and represents a diversity of musical genres, stage art, visual art, literature and film. The Festival of Culture also has a strong focus on children and young people, through the Children’s Festival of Culture. The Festival of Culture is held in June and tours for the remainder of the year.

Winter celebration week in Narvik The annual winter celebration week in Narvik includes almost 300 events that attract approx. 56,000 spectators. The festival communicates and maintains cultural history from the area, including the heyday of the railroad workers, through music, literature, art, theatre, dance and local knowledge.

Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival Every summer and winter, a chamber music festival is arranged in what are possibly Norway’s most beautiful surroundings. Concerts are held in wooden churches, culture centres and guesthouses and farms in Lofoten, featuring well-known musicians from Norway and abroad.

Steinvikholm Music Theatre Innermost in Trondheimsfjorden at Steinvikholmen, the opera about Olav Engelbrektsson is performed. The castle ruins, where the actual story took place 450 years ago, will form the stage for the show. Steinvikholm Music Theatre also has an opera academy for young people, with the objective of motivating young people to develop themselves within the stage arts.

The Kristiansund Opera This opera house is one of Norway’s oldest, and can be traced all the way back to 1805. Operas, musical comedies, ballet and dance performances are all put on here, performed by a mixture of professionals and amateurs. The Storting (Parliament) named the opera a national resource and knowledge centre for district opera, and it has a particular focus on children and young people.

International Chamber Music Festival During the chamber music festival in Stavanger, international musicians meet for one week every August. They live, work, eat – and play – together. The fellowship is inspiring and creates unique moments to the joy of the audience. The concerts are held, among other places, at the Stavanger cathedral, Utstein Abby and the Stavanger Concert Hall.
