TOTAL E&P NORGE AS initiated Research and Development (R&D) activities in Norway as early as in 1979. Our research centre (SRC) is located in Stavanger, at the company's main offices in Dusavik. It is administered and financed by TOTAL E&P NORGE.

Stavanger Research Centre (SRC) forms part of the international network of Exploration and Production (E&P) R&D within TOTAL, accounting for about 10% of the E&P research budget.  Organisationally SRC is part of the Business, Development and Strategy Department and its mission is to:

  • Make relevant Norwegian technology available to TOTAL E&P NORGE's activities and to parent company R&D
  • Facilitate the use of parent company R&D in TOTAL E&P NORGE

Our R&D programme is conducted within the TOTAL E&P worldwide research strategy, ensuring relevance, coherence and full access to the Group's expertise.

With 9 permanent employees, supplemented by contracted personnel, consultants, post-docs, VIE's (young French engineers) and students, our main areas for operated research lie within three domains:

SRC also relies on contracted research in various areas of E&P (seismic, drilling, materials, abandonment and safety).

Co-operation with universities and research institutes in Norway, local operators, contractors and small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), gives Stavanger Research Centre an important role in the internationalisation of Norwegian technology.  Our activity is coordinated with other Exploration & Production Research Centres: the main Research Centre in Pau (SW France), the Geoscience Research Centre (GRC) based in UK and the Houston Research Centre in Texas.
